Heather Vaughan, Principal Designer

Raised by an artist, Heather grew up steeped in a colorful world of art, antiques, and whimsy. Her love of the visual world guided her career, and she went on to become a founding partner in Pentimento Interiors. In 2007, she launched Heather Vaughan Design to focus on a bespoke, customized approach to interior design. Her creative energy and ability to connect with clients means that every project is grounded in collaboration. She brings that same relationship-driven focus to her interactions with everyone from artisans to craftsmen in the community, and those connections allow her to produce truly one-of-a-kind designs. You’ll find Heather meeting with her clients on site, sourcing at the Boston Design Center, or pulling samples at her sunny Newton studio.

I love working with Heather!

She has a great idea for color, pattern, and texture and brings them all together to create a look that is personal and fresh. She was great at managing the many sub-contractors and extremely meticulous in all details. I also appreciated her ability to seek out alternatives for items that were too expensive for my budget, or in a couple of cases convinced me to cut something else out so that we could have ‘that special rug’. And in the long run, she was right on!

Monica Johnson, MSM_IA
interior designer

As a child Monica realized the powerful emotional connection we have to our spaces through watching design shows. She witnessed how people changed when they entered different spaces and saw the power of design in action. Monica completed a Bachelors of Science in Design followed by a Master's of Science in Management with a concentration in Interior Architecture at Mount Ida College before joining the HVID team. At Heather Vaughan Interior Design, Monica has been an integral part of project planning and materials sourcing for ten years. Bringing her skills in 3D modeling, Monica renders clients spaces allowing for detailed visuals during project planning. Catch her at the studio with her dog Bella, bringing designs to life.

OUR STORY

When we started Heather Vaughan Design 15 years ago, we set out to design on a personal level. We wanted to make bold design approachable. We wanted to make it work for the way each client lives every day. We believe in spaces that have high and low, heirloom and found, old and new. Whether it’s seeing the perfect display for your Bakelite collection or the place of honor for your mother’s Kitchenaid, we hope you’ll walk into your space and know that it’s been designed for you.
